Spread joy and good health: Care Alliance, Breakthrough Schools host Holiday Toy Giveback

Hot off its annual Community Turkey and Food Giveaway last month, Care Alliance Health Center has now turned its attention to the December holidays—partnering with Breakthrough Schools to present the 2025 Holiday Toy Giveback this Saturday, Dec. 13 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Breakthrough MidTown, 1417 E. 36th Street.

The free, public event is designed to support families by providing both holiday gifts and meaningful connections to preventative care in a supportive setting.

There will be free health screenings onsite with blood pressure checks, glucose testing, cholesterol screenings, behavioral health and mood screenings, and dental screenings.

The event will also include:
• Live DJ and emcee
• Activity stations
• Community resource tables with practical support
• Holiday refreshments and treats

“The Toy Giveback is one of the clearest reminders of why Care Alliance exists,” says Care Alliance Health Center president & CEO Dr. Ken J.A. Griffin. “Families and partners across Cleveland show extraordinary strength every day, and moments like this prove that care is more powerful when it's shared.

“When a child unwraps a toy and smiles, it's hope made real. It tells them their community sees them, values them, and is rooting for them, continues Griffin. “We're proud to stand with the neighbors, volunteers, and organizations who choose our kids, season after season.”

“We’re honored to partner with Care Alliance for this year’s toy giveaway, bringing joy and connection to families across our community,” Breakthrough Public Schools CEO Andrew McRae said in a statement. “We believe every child deserves to feel celebrated, supported, and seen, especially during the holiday season. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to strengthening families and cultivating belonging across Cleveland.”

Kids, from newborns to age 12, can pick up toys, enjoy activities from local vendors, as well as receive the free health screenings.

Last year, the Toy Giveback reached capacity quickly—a testament to how local families are seeking support this holiday season.

Many families served by Care Alliance continue to face barriers like housing instability, gaps in insurance, and limited access to resources like SNAP. The event is meant to provide support and a joyful holiday experience for everyone, says Griffin.

"At Care Alliance, we witness the quiet strength of our families every day, and the Toy Giveback brings that resilience to life,” he explains. “A child’s joy is a reminder that our community is telling them, ‘You matter, and we see you.’ This is the Cleveland we are proud to serve."
