From U.S. President and Civil War veteran James A. Garfield to those who served in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and other wars—the veterans interred at Lake View Cemetery represent all races, religions, and walks of life.
To honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, Lake View will host its annual Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m.
The public is invited to a ceremony on the lawn of the James A. Garfield Memorial. The ceremony will include:
• A formal flag-raising ceremony
• A wreath-laying ceremony at the Garfield Memorial
• A musical performance by the Cleveland Letter Carrier Band, which dates back to 1890
• Participation by local groups like ROTC, the American Legion, VFW, and others
In the days before to Memorial Day, hundreds of community volunteers will place American flags on the graves of more than 9,000 veterans interred at Lake View.
