The Salvation Army opens three new preschools in the Cleveland area

Responding to early childhood educational gaps left by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland in January opened three preschool locations in underserved Cleveland neighborhoods.

The three new reschools in Ohio City, 4402 Clark Ave.; West Park, 12645 Lorain Ave.; and Collinwood, 17625 Grovewood Ave., as well as an existing preschool in Akron, were chosen based on financial needs in accessing academic resources. Enrollment is now open for children ages three to five.

The schools are part of the Salvation Army’s Leaning Zone program, activity-based educational and camp environments led by licensed teachers.

To make sure the students are safe and healthy, Learning Zone director Marketi Robinson says the staff conducts temperature checks before allowing students entry to the regularly sanitized center.

“While we are reopening to ensure that children get the developmental and learning elements needed for success in kindergarten and in life, safety is priority.” says Robinson says.

Additionally, the organization ensures the inclusion of all families by accepting both government vouchers and private pay. To minimize the cost of tuition for those participating in private pay, two types of scholarships are also available.

Many parents in the area are either employed or enrolled in school during the day, Marketi says, and opening these centers allows parents to fulfill their commitments She adds that the preschools will maintain a standard ratio of one teacher to every 10 students.

Summer programs for students ages six to 12 will be available at each location. For more information on the Learning Zones, email or call (216) 623-7411.
