Summer on the Square: Music, dance, and a safari


Organizers of the free Summer music and events series at Shaker Square, and the staff at Cleveland Neighborhood Progress (CNP) want folks to come to the Square are offering a selection of entertainment and fun for every age this week, beginning today, Thursday, July 31, with live music from flamenco guitarist Victor Samalot.

From bold rhythms to heartfelt melodies, enjoy an evening of music filled with passion and precision with guitarist Victor Samalot.From bold rhythms to heartfelt melodies, enjoy an evening of music filled with passion and precision with guitarist Victor Samalot.Experience the artistry of flamenco guitar at Coyoacan, 13133 Shaker Square, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with Samalot’s music that is filled with passion and precision in everything from bold rhythms to heartfelt melodies. Then, taste Coyoacan’s authentic cuisine of Mexico City—burritos, tacos, Cochinita Pibil (a slow-roasted pork dish), and Chiles rellenos.

On Saturday, Aug. 2, at the North Union Farmers Market, which runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Annette Ellis will host a free Kids’ Dance Class from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Get ready to move, groove, and have a blast! The class is the perfect way for little ones to burn off energy, build confidence, and explore the joy of movement. With upbeat music and easy-to-follow steps, this class is designed to keep kids smiling while they learn basic dance moves and express themselves through rhythm and motion.

Meet some amazing animals up close and discover fun facts with Outback Ray from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., then get treated to an ice cream social hosted by Café Indigo, 13201 Shaker Square, along with free face painting and lawn games from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

With a mission to foster equitable revitalization and enhance economic success and appeal for both current residents and future generations throughout Cleveland's neighborhoods, CNP is staying true to its motto, “Every neighborhood in Cleveland deserves to thrive.”

Series organizers say they hope these events will encourage people to rediscover Shaker Square, explore unique shopping options, and sample the delicious food available from the locally-owned restaurants.

The events will be running through the summer and into the fall.
