Lakewood is a little more colorful after the unveiling of a new public art piece by local artist Derek Brennan last Tuesday, May 1, at the corner of Warren Road and Detroit Avenue. Brennan’s mural, “Imagination on the Lake,” spans approximately 13-feet by 9-feet over two inset panels of the brick building that houses Area Temps. “
Since opening Melt’s first location in Lakewood 12 years ago, Matt Fish has turned the grilled cheese business into a thriving franchise with 12 Ohio locations. This spring, Fish decided it was time to renovate the original location—shutting the restaurant down and pulling off a major transformation in just one month. The Lakewood Melt will celebrate its grand re-opening this Friday, May 4.

For the first time in Cleveland, two local female chefs have been named semifinalists for the James Beard Awards. Chef Karen Small, owner of The Flying Fig, and chef Jill Vedaa, co-owner of Salt, are two of 20 chefs in the Great Lakes division, having made it to the semifinals from 20,000 entries in 21 categories. The vision for Cuyahoga Greenways would connect every community in the county through a network of greenways, trails, parks, transportation routes, and neighborhoods. Early yesterday morning, resident Joshua McLaughlin was taking a morning jog down Belle Avenue when he saw swastikas painted on a neighbor’s driveway. Michael Symon's Mabel's BBQ has smoked up plenty of press since the much anticipated meat emporium opened its doors on East Fourth Street last year. Tucked away on East 41th Street just across the way from Tyler Village, Stephen Yusko is toiling away at his studio wherein you'll find milling machines and band saws and the usual residents in a metalworking shop. But Yusko's tools also include anvils, a white-hot forge and the tongs and hammers that transform steel into the smith's graceful designs.
"My work is a combination of forging, machining and fabricating. It seems like more machining, but it always starts with a forged … something," says Yusko. "I enjoy that process: heating up a bar of steel and transforming it into a shape."
Yusko continues while a cat named M slinks around the shop, completely unimpressed by the craftsman's lofty musings:
