Kelli Connell: Pictures for Charis transports visitors through a visual dialogue between the landscapes of the 1930s and today, exploring themes of intimacy and memory.

Date night in the galleriesAmerican photographer Kelli Connell reconsiders the relationship between writer Charis Wilson and photographer Edward Weston through a close examination of Wilson’s prose and Weston’s iconic photographs of the Western landscape and the female nude.

Connell weaves together the stories of Wilson and Weston with that of her own relationship with her partner, Betsy Odom, enriching our understanding of the couple from her contemporary queer and feminist perspective. Using Weston and Wilson publications as a guide, Connell and Odom created portrait and landscape photographs at sites where Wilson and Weston lived, made art, and spent time together.

This exhibition juxtaposes Connell’s photographs with classic figure studies and landscapes by Weston from 1934 to 1945, one of his most productive periods and the span of his relationship with Wilson.

• Meanwhile, Shahzia Sikander: Collective Behavior, opening today, Friday, Feb. 14, presents an in-depth look at the celebrated artist’s career, blending themes of identity and shared experience.

Nothing says romance like live music. CMA is pulling out all the stops with its Chamber Music in the Atrium: Love Is in the Air concert this evening, Friday, Feb. 14, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Musicians from Musical Upcoming Stars in the Classics (M.U.S.I.C.) and the Cleveland Institute of Music will fill the Ames Family Atrium with enchanting melodies.

Expect romantic waltzes, heartfelt sonatas, and even a few surprise performances from Ohio Contemporary Ballet dancers.

Baldwin Wallace Conservatory Opera's Speed Dating Tonight If your love life feels like a comedy of errors, you won’t want to miss the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory Opera’s production of “Speed Dating Tonight!” The one-act opera runs from Friday, Feb. 14 through Sunday, Feb. 16 in the Gartner Auditorium and hilariously captures the highs and lows of modern dating—complete with quirky characters and a fun, fast-paced musical score.

With speed daters rotating through a series of quick encounters, the performance is packed with humor, surprises, and perhaps even a few love connections.
