Honoring President James A. Garfield on Presidents Day

Happy Presidents Day! Did you know the State of Ohio is known as the “Mother of Presidents” because seven U.S. Presidents were born in the Buckeye State? Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Howard Taft, Warren G. Harding, and James A. Garfield were all born in Ohio—although President Garfield has the closest ties to Cleveland, born in Orange Township (today’s Moreland Hills). In honor of Presidents Day 2025, today, Monday, Feb. 17, FreshWater pays homage to the life and legacy of James Abram Garfield, our country’s 20th President, and his final resting place at the James A. Garfield Memorial at Lake View Cemetery.
