Live music and local vibes: Heights Music Hop returns this weekend

Step to the beat through Cleveland Heights this weekend as the 2024 Heights Music Hop returns for its 11th year, transforming local businesses into stages for local talent in the Cedar Lee, Coventry, and Cedar Fairmount districts.

The free event, organized by FutureHeights, Cleveland Heights' Community Development Corporation (CDC), runs this weekend—shining the spotlight on live music, local shopping and dining, and community spirit.

“The Music Hop is one of my favorite events in Cleveland every year,” says Cleveland Heights resident Reuben Kutash. “It’s such a great collection of local artists and an awesome way to showcase our local venues and businesses in the Heights.”

The hop kicks off on Friday, Sept. 27, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Cedar Fairmount area. Attendees can grab a craft cocktail at The Fairmount, enjoy whiskey at Parnell’s Pub, dig into tacos at Barrio, or check out the new pocket park at Ascent at Top of the Hill—all while enjoying live music at each venue.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Noble Gardeners’ Market at Heights Libraries’ Noble Neighborhood Branch will host music, in addition to selling fresh produce, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m..

Then, the action shifts to the Cedar Lee area in the evening, starting at 6 p.m. While the performances end at 10 p.m., many participating businesses, including The Tavern Company, The Social Room, CLE Urban Winery, and Boss Dog Brewing Company, will remain open for dining, drinking, and shopping.

The weekend wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 29, in Coventry Village, where Heights Music Hop continues from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Along with live music, there will be a sidewalk sale featuring more than 50 vendors and artisans, food trucks, kids' activities, a dance contest, and a 50/50 raffle.

“[The Music Hop is] a chance for the community to come together and celebrate live music,” says Jim Grenwis, owner of The Social Room. “We’re lucky to have events like this that bring Cleveland Heights and our neighbors together.”

Kutash agrees that the weekend builds community spirit. “It’s fun, welcoming, and great for all ages—definitely an event not to miss,” he adds.
