Polkas, pierogies, and a surprise wedding: Dyngus Day brings the party to Gordon Square

Red and white filled the streets of Gordon Square on Monday, April 6, as Dyngus Day returned with polka, dancing, and a packed crowd stretching along Detroit Avenue.

With DJ Kishka emceeing and the Chardon Polka Band setting the rhythm, the day unfolded in bursts of music, celebration, and community spirit. From spirited dancing to the Miss Dyngus Day contest—where Christine Deidrick was crowned—and the always-competitive pierogi eating contest, the annual tradition once again transformed the neighborhood into one of the city’s most joyful gatherings.

To top it all off, an unexpected street-side wedding between Becki Locke and James Sheehe drew crowds, who lined up to form the aisle as DJ Kishka escorted the bridge.

FreshWater photographer Reuben Kutash was there to catch all the fun.
