Seasonal spirit: St. Luke’s, GCUFF, host free holiday movie night, sips & treats event at Shaker Squ

The Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival (GCUFF) and the Saint Luke's Foundation will host two special community events in Shaker Square this week to celebrate the holiday season with joy, connection, and festive cheer for Mt. Pleasant, Buckeye-Shaker, and Woodland Hills residents.

The two organizations will host Holiday Movie Night at Atlas Cinemas Shaker Square, 13116 Shaker Square, on Wednesday, Dec. 18, followed by Holiday Sups & Treats at Café Indigo, 13201 Shaker Square, on Saturday, Dec. 21.

There’s something for almost every taste this week at Shaker Square, as we head into the holidays.

Movie Night

Community Movie Night at Shaker SquareCommunity Movie Night at Shaker SquareOn Wednesday, Dec. 18, attendees can choose between free screenings of “Moana 2” at 6 p.m. or “Wicked” at 7 p.m. at Atlas Cinemas.

Disney’s “Moana 2” reunites Moana and Maui for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.

“Wicked” tells the story of Elphaba, a misunderstood young woman because of her green skin, and Glinda, a popular girl, who become friends at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. After an encounter with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads.

Guests can enjoy complimentary popcorn and soda as they watch these films, connect with their neighbors, and experience the magic of the holiday season together.

“We are excited to partner with the Saint Luke's Foundation to create this powerful cinematic experience for the Cleveland community,” said GCUFF executive director Donna Dobbs in a statement. “This event is a reflection of our mission to enrich culture through cinema, by bringing people together to celebrate the richness of the African Diaspora.”

Dobbs adds that the two movies are perfect choices to bring the community together. “We are proud to share films that inspire connection, celebrate our history, and uplift our communities, all while fostering joy and reflection during the holiday season,” she says.

Attendees will receive a free Café Indigo stainless-steel Coffee Club mug to encourage return visits when the cafe officially opens.

“The Saint Luke’s Foundation is honored to partner with the Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival and Café Indigo to host community events that embody our shared values, aspirations, and joys that speak to the festive season,” Saint Luke’s Foundation president and CEO Tim Tramble, Sr. said in a statement. “This celebration at Shaker Square is to create meaningful memories that uplift the spirit of our community and strengthen the bonds of togetherness and fellowship.

Tickets for both events are limited, so be sure to RSVP as soon as possible. Guests can choose only one movie to attend when reserving seats, and tickets must be picked up 30 minutes before the films start.
